I believe in the power of words—the power to entertain, to educate, to challenge, to change. And, of course, the power to communicate effectively.
I've been writing for as long as I can remember, but it was my high school journalism experience that convinced me to pursue a formal education and career in communications.
In May 2011 I graduated summa cum laude from Ramapo College of New Jersey, earning a B.A. in Communication Arts: Journalism, with a minor in psychology. In the following year I completed my post-baccalaureate studies at Ramapo, receiving a certificate in Business Essentials.
During my time at RCNJ I developed skills in print and online journalism, media studies, advertising, public relations, radio broadcasting, marketing and leadership. I became a writer and editor for The Ramapo News and held positions as a news intern for The Record in Woodland Park, NJ and as a publicity intern for Basic Books in New York, NY. I also gained experience in communications, higher education and event planning working as a peer advisor, and later a testing assistant, under Ramapo's Enrollment Management division.
As an active member of and volunteer for the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America over the past eight years, I've used my abilities to fundraise more than $12,000, counsel children and adults with IBD, generate awareness through social media and share the stories of patients, donors and participants.
Over time, my experiences living with Crohn's disease, volunteering as a cabin counselor at CCFA's Camp Oasis, participating in CCFA's Team Challenge program, and advocating for the IBD and invisible illness communities led me to develop a passion for patient support and nonprofit work.
As this put my enthusiasm for writing and communications in context, growing my desire to help others and give back through meaningful work, I shifted my focus and career search to the not-for-profit sector. Interning for CCFA's Team Challenge program afforded professional exposure to the field, and allowed me to support marketing and PR initiatives for a large nonprofit organization.
In late 2014, I accepted a development assistant position at the Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center in New York City, joining a staff renowned for its compassion and commitment to breaking down the barriers young people face in accessing high-quality, comprehensive and integrated health care. I continue seeking opportunities to network and grow as a professional, as well as a patient advocate.
My specialty is in writing and editing non-fiction material and working with online and social media, with experience in publicity, fundraising, event planning and interpersonal communication.
